Dubai has kicked off a month-long celebration to honour the legacy of the UAE’s founding fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, with the launch of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign. 

Running from November 3 to December 3, this campaign features a diverse lineup of activities spanning fireworks displays, musical concerts, cultural exhibits, and festive parades.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to experience the city’s unique tribute to the UAE’s rich heritage and achievements.

What is #ZayedAndRashid campaign

The #ZayedAndRashid campaign celebrates the UAE’s heritage through a variety of events, showcasing both traditional and innovative cultural activities.

Speaking on the purpose of this initiative, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, emphasized that the campaign aims “to honour the UAE’s founding fathers...for their historic role in establishing the Union, and to reinforce national identity within UAE society.”

“The initiative also serves as an opportunity to introduce visitors to the visionary leaders who have left an indelible mark on the history and legacy of the UAE,” he added.


A month of cultural events and attractions

Dubai has curated a series of spectacular events at iconic locations for the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, designed to reflect the UAE’s identity, heritage, and achievements. 

  • Fireworks across the city: On December 2nd and 3rd, dazzling fireworks displays will light up JBR Beach, Al Seef, Hatta, and Dubai Festival City Mall. Global Village will feature nightly fireworks throughout the campaign, ensuring residents and visitors can enjoy breathtaking displays.
  • Seasonal markets and parades: Seasonal markets such as Beach Canteen, Ripe Market, and Winter Wonderland will offer Emirati-themed activities, local food, and unique retail experiences. On December 2nd, City Walk will host a grand Union Day Parade, highlighting Emirati culture through traditional dances and performances in collaboration with Watani Al Emarat.
  • Concerts & performances: Expo City Dubai will host a special concert, ‘Union Symphony,’ featuring the Firdaus Orchestra performing Emirati national songs in two free public performances at Al Wasl Plaza. Traditional Emirati performances will also be held, with an Emirati Harvest Market offering local agricultural products.
  • Heritage destinations and museums: Dubai’s museums will play an active role in the celebrations. Al Shindagha Museum, the UAE’s largest open-air heritage site, will present theatrical and interactive performances to showcase life in historic Dubai. The Etihad Museum will host exhibits narrating the UAE’s Union history, while the Museum of the Future will join in with a flag display and an Eid Al Etihad video, shared on social media.
  • Lighting up Dubai: Dubai Municipality will illuminate major parks, landmarks like the Dubai Frame, Dubai Safari Park, and the Clock Tower roundabout. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will add to the festivities by decorating main streets, bridges, and digital screens, while Global Village will offer nightly firework shows.

Dubai Airports joining the celebration: Dubai Airports will also be transformed for the celebrations, featuring spaces dedicated to the UAE’s maritime heritage and playing traditional national songs to welcome passengers. Videos and informational displays on traveller screens and social media will pay tribute to Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, while cultural performances at the airport celebrate the UAE’s customs and history.

Educational campaigns and student initiatives: The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is championing weekly themes in schools to celebrate national identity, highlighting Emirati heritage, educational achievements, and future goals. Students will engage in competitions for arts, photography, and poetry, showcasing Emirati culture in a digital exhibit.

Collaborative Spirit Across Public and Private Sectors: In partnership with Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Dubai Government Media Office, and other key organisations, 16 partners are contributing to this celebration. From fireworks and concerts to educational workshops, public and private sectors are working together to enhance the cultural richness of Dubai’s month-long festivities. Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson of the Dubai Media Council, remarked, “Through the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, we seek to creatively showcase the unique and vibrant celebratory events implemented by various institutions.”

Hatta’s community events and celebrations: The scenic mountain town of Hatta will host winter festivities, including folk dances, fireworks, and community gatherings that celebrate both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the UAE. Music performances and local activities offer visitors a chance to experience the UAE’s traditions amid Hatta’s picturesque landscapes.
